We were guests at the Sandalwood villas during the first 2 weeks of July. We chose the resort based on the Trip Advisor reviews. We took the Lotus villa because we were with 4 adults and wanted two bedroom and two bathrooms. A lot has been written over the breakfast. Yes, it is limited compared to other resort of the same class, and when you are there for two weeks you want something different at the end. Having said that, what we got was very good and the service (the trademark of Sandalwood) was perfect. We also had several dinners in the restaurant.
The food they serve is very, very good. There is enough choice and you should try the “ Sizzling hot plate” at least once. The views are incredible due to the location on the steep hill. Make no mistake, it is really steep. I’m a keen mountain biker, but I did not manage to ride up the hill. Not to worry, I spoke with the owner and he offered to pick us up, with the bicycles, at the bottom of the hill, free of charge. All pick up’s at the bottom of the hill are free of charge. You just call them with the phone they provide you. The infinity pool is very nice and has very good views.
The big plus of Sandalwood is Pon and her team. Whatever problem, big or small, you have they solve it with a smile. I went diving a couple of times and had to leave before the restaurant opened, no problem, they bring you a box with breakfast to your room.
Sandalwood is for sure one of the best places I’ve ever been to.
My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to stay at Sandalwood for a week in April. We were looking for a week of relaxation and a bit of luxury, this was second to none, and way passed our expectations.
We stayed in the Amarin Villa and the view was incredible! The room was gorgeous and very large. The little touches made it feel special, from cakes, flowers and candels to the beachbags and mobile phone! The balcony was perfect and had a door that leads on to the infinity pool, not once in our week long stay did we share the pool even though they had plenty of guests, but you really feel like you can tuck yourself away.
I have to say, one thing we always talk about from our stay are the staff. They were brilliant, reception, spa, the drivers, and the restaurant staff, everyone was fantastic. We described them as little angels, as before you could even ask for something they had done it without you even noticing. The staff really do make this place what it is, a little bit of paradise!
One day I came back from the beach a little sunburnt and the lady on reception went down to the spa, cut some fresh aloe vera and made me a body gel to keep in the fridge... They really do go the extra mile!
I must mention how great the food was... always perfect with a great choice in the restaurant and also room service.
I really hope one day we can revisit Sandalwood!
Great "personal" service. At a remote location, transport is provided to/from hotel. They even give you a mobile to call them to pick you up!
Also I have a room with great view. Check it before you book.
We also enjoyed the breakfast and dinner in our room, with great local Thai food.
Definitely one of the best choice unless you prefer the busy main road and beach area.
We stayed at Sandalwood for 7 nights from 25 June in Plumeria Villa which had it's own private plunge pool, lovely sundeck and garden. The villa was spacious and extremley private and we hardly ever ran into other guests, however the guests we did meet were very friendly. The villa was kept clean at all times and was also stocked with insect repellant and a first aid kit.
We dined at Sandalwood most nights as the food was excellent and cooked to our liking, and the staff very attentive, our thanks go to Rat for her lovely smile and great service during our stay, we thought it was reasonably priced. We had a day at Chewang where we spent most of the day on the beach under a tree as it was extremley hot, we made use of the free shuttle service provided by Sandalwood to get us there as well as a morning at Lamai. I must say that all we really wanted from our holiday was to chill out and we certainly did that infact I have never slept so much and so well as I did during our stay.
The staff are all very charming and nothing is too much trouble, the reception staff will answer any questions you have and provide anything you may need.
Many thanks to Pon and her team for a very pleasant and memorable stay.
Having just left Hong Kong I was very excited to experience the peace of Koh Samui and spend some time at Sandalwood, I was not disappointed. This place is 100% focused on its visitors, if you have a request they will do whatever they can to help you out. They may charge you, but I came 9000 miles, I'm not about to get upset about 400 Baht to get a ride into the main town if I miss the free shuttle. We spent the majority of our time in the villa or at Coral Cove Beach at the bottom of the hill which you can get to for free. (Coral Cove - 600 yards of nice beach, never more than 12 people, good food, cheap beer, and a Kayak to rent, great place!)
Sandalwood also made me realize what's important in a hotel, there are definitely fancier hotels in the world, but they will not provide the service, peace, or tranquility of Sandalwood. If you wish to leave the peace and quite, they will gladly call a car rental company, give you a map, and help you plan your day. Had dinner here 3 of 4 nights, never disappointed.
I could continue but in summation, if you are looking for clean room, peace and quiet with spectacular service, this is the place. Foods good too!
